Mitre Housing Association currently has 157 properties across Cumbria providing quality affordable homes for rent in smaller rural communities. We work closely with the Cumbrian Churches and have special concern for:
- Encouraging and sustaining family and community life
- Approaching our duties in a Christian spirit of service and care for all
- Seeking opportunities for creating small scale developments
- Building upon our relationship with the Diocese, local churches and other agencies
Our four goals:
These are the areas we’re currently focused on developing and delivering as an organisation (our corporate objectives):
- A. Resident and Community Focus
- We will listen to and engage with our residents to ensure we provide good quality homes and services.
- We will work together with our residents, the Anglican Church, its Ecumenical partners, and other agencies in Cumbria to build stronger communities
- B. Well Maintained Safe and Warm Homes
- We will make sure our homes are well-maintained, safe and warm with high levels of satisfaction from residents
- C. Additional Affordable Homes
- We will enable and provide additional homes through the development of small sites
- We will ensure our homes are affordable, safe, stable and satisfying
- D. Excellent Organisation
- We will ensure Mitre is well governed and well managed by meeting regulatory compliance and standards and by adopting best practice
- We will keep feedback from residents and Value for Money at the heart of all we do, and will use them to drive improved performance and service delivery
Our Vision:
- To provide affordable homes that are sustainable, safe, stable and satisfying – which are in alignment with the Church Commission’s core values set out in the ‘Coming Home‘ report
- To provide an additional 10% (16) or more affordable homes in our heartlands over the next 10 years for those in housing need
- To build stronger links between the churches and our customers, strengthening community ties
- To ensure Mitre is a well-managed, efficient housing association with customers at its heart
Our Values:

Finding out more
We try to shape Mitres’ work as a housing association serving the people of Cumbria around our values, our vision and our mission. We are particularly focused on four objectives at the moment.
The sections below explain more of how we organise ourselves and make decisions.

Mitre Housing Association is governed by a voluntary board, made up members with expertise across governance, finance, development and regulatory compliance. The board is ultimately responsible for Mitre’s strategic direction and for meeting the standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing.
Gill Boyd, our part-time Executive Director, leads Mitre’s day-to-day governance and reports directly to the board.
Mitre’s housing management, repairs and maintenance services are delivered under a management agreement with Eden Housing Association (EHA), our managing agent. This agreement sets out clear accountabilities between the two organisations: Mitre retains legal and regulatory responsibility as the registered provider, while Eden delivers the operational services residents experience day to day, including repairs, housing management and resident support.
Mitre Housing Association does not operate separate decision-making committees. All formal decisions are made by the Board, which holds full responsibility for Mitre’s governance, strategy and regulatory compliance.
The board’s work is supported by two task and finish groups, each made up of board members: a Governance Group, chaired by Becky Elton, and a Development & Asset Management Group, chaired by Beki Winter. These groups focus on specific areas of board business and report back to the full board, which retains decision-making authority.
